How to Play Music in Your Store in Big Ambitions

Music is one of those systems that looks cosmetic and is not. It sits inside the interior component of customer satisfaction, alongside design score and cleanliness — and customer satisfaction is what caps how many customers a business can attract.

Why It Matters

The game’s own framing: music is important for businesses that get customers in store, because it provides a more enjoyable experience. That “in store” qualifier is the useful part. A business where people spend time on the premises — a nightclub, a coffee shop, a clothing store people browse in — gets more from a sound system than one where the transaction is quick.

Speaker Furniture

There are two loudspeaker families documented, each in three sizes:

  • Classic Loudspeaker — small, medium, large
  • JayBeeel Loudspeaker — small, medium, large

Alongside them the game has a plain Speaker item, a Microphone, a DJ Booth and Stage Lights, which is the nightclub-specific end of the catalog. The DJ booth is also one of the documented happiness boosts for your own character when placed at home.

Speakers generally come from the furniture and appliance suppliers rather than the trade stores — see where to buy for how the six suppliers divide up.

Custom Music and the Radio

A frequently asked question is whether you can play your own music in the game. There is community documentation for using custom audio, and Big Ambitions has supported Steam Workshop content since EA 0.11 “The Workshop Awakens” in June 2026, which is the supported route for community-made content generally.

What is worth being careful about: the searches around this topic split between “how do I add my own songs” and “how do I get music playing in my shop at all”. The second is the furniture question above and needs no mods. The first involves custom files, and the only route this site covers is the Steam Workshop one — see mods and workshop.

The Nightclub Case

Nightclubs are the business where audio equipment stops being an interior-score item and becomes core to the concept: DJ booth, stage lights, dance floor. 1.0 added a direct interaction — clicking the nightclub dance floor brings up dancing options, which boost your own happiness. So a nightclub is simultaneously a business, a happiness source and a place your character can burn evening hours productively.

Where Music Sits Among Priorities

If you are fitting out a shop and deciding what to buy first, the order that maximises return is roughly:

  1. Capacity-bearing fixtures — registers, counters, display, appliances. Without these the building’s customer capacity is unreachable.
  2. Cleaning station and staff — trash drags interior score and cleanliness appears in employee demands.
  3. Walls and flooring in Interior Design mode — the game says these can take the design score to 100%.
  4. Music — a real contributor for premises-based businesses, and cheap relative to the appliances.
  5. Decorative furniture — plants, art, carpets. Nice, and the interior spend achievement chain rewards it, but last.

Full breakdown of the interior system is in interior design, and how satisfaction converts to customers is in pricing guide.
